Guest Post: RecipeLion – Get Excited for Apple Picking and Apple Recipes

by Dena | Print the article | Sep 15

Fall is nearly upon us and for many parts of the United States we’re coming into the prime apple picking season. Even though this signals the official end of summer, it makes me happy because with it comes so many fun fall festivities, like apple picking.

Apple picking is not only a fun outing with family and friends (that will surely get you in the fall mood) it’s also a budget friendly way to get loads of fresh apples at your house. There’s nothing better than a fresh, right off the tree apple in my opinion. It beats anything you’ll find in the store – taste and price wise.

Since apple picking usually means you’ll come home with at least half a bushel of apples, you might choose to use the apples for more than just that “apple a day” treat. Apple recipes are one of my favorite things about the fall season because there are so many ways you can use them – from sweet to savory. My personal favorite is sweet, and even better – apple pies.

This Apple Blush Pie that was contributed to RecipeLion from 101 Hearty Recipes Cookbook has everything I love about the flavors of fall. Think cinnamon, but not just your average cinnamon spice, it uses cinnamon candies for even more of a sweet, unique flavor combo with your apples.

The best part – it’s easy to make and the minimal ingredients make this cheap to make too! For what will surely become a favorite dessert recipe (and pie recipe) in your house, you must make this Apple Blush Pie on RecipeLion.com.

Apple Blush Pie

Serves: 8

Cooking Time: 40 min

Ingredients

• 5 apples, peeled, cored and sliced

• 3/4 cup sugar

• 1 can (15.25-ounce) crushed pineapple

• 1/3 cup red cinnamon candies

• 2 tablespoons instant tapioca, uncooked

• 3 tablespoons butter, softened

• 2 9-inch pie crusts

Instructions

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F.

2. In a bowl, combine apples, sugar, crushed pineapple, cinnamon candies, tapioca, and butter.

3. Place one crust in a 9″ pie plate; top with apple mixture.

4. Cut remaining crust into 1/2-inch strips; form a lattice pattern over filling.

5. Bake at 425 degrees F for 10 minutes.

6. Reduce temperature to 350 degrees F and bake an additional 30 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!

Serve this with some vanilla ice cream and hot cider and you’ve found perfection!
