Come Check Out Our Race Car

Since some of you have showed interest on the Cincinnati Coupons Facebook page into our families passion (well, besides the girls!) I thought I’d share it with ya’ll!

I’ll give ya  brief history…Jason and I met because of cars. I was into imports (my Mom called me a grease monkey!) and he was into mustangs (like 11 years ago!).

When we met he had a 82 Capri that he had built all by himself and he hooked me the first time I rode in it…he says that’s why I “fell for him”…whatevs! Anyway, as time went on we kinda converted each other. J bought a Honda and decided to start building those and that he did! We had everything from a naturally aspirated Civic to a turbo’d Integra.

For the past 5 years (since we’ve lived in our house) he’s tinkered with Mustangs! I found a ’02 Mustang GT a few years ago and we both fell in love with it. He took the engine out of it and built the engine and transmission for the car…of course he stuck a big ‘bo on it and it was a pretty fun car…we joke because I LOVED that car and drove it more than he did! I’m gonna get that car back someone – until then….

J has always had his eye on this 89 GT. It was once a NMRA Factory Stock car that was pretty well known. For years it sat at MD in Sharonville in the parking lot and it made J sick because he knew the dollas it took to build that car and it was a shame to let a car like that sit. He always said he’d like to own the car, but, it’s just always been a little to high rent for our budget builds!

He finally got his hands on the car 2 years ago. He brought it home and started tearing into it. He built the engine, built a transmission and added some bars to the cage to make it legal. We took the car out and he ended up selling the turbo off the car and bought a little bigger one ;) and now it’s just the way he wants it. We fought the car shutting off a couple hundred feet out, but, thanks to the dyno we figured the problem out and now it’s legit!

We took it to the track and actually made a few hits on the car. The hubs ended up getting it to go 9.75 at 128 MPH. He was on the breaks and coasted about 1/8 mile because he knew it was a great pass. He doesn’t have a NHRA license so once he gets that it’s game on peeps!

The Hubs built the car to run some local 1/8 mile class that runs a 8.5″ tire. It’s a pretty neat class. We have traveled the eastern half of the country racing mustangs and we wouldn’t trade it for the world! Mini Me is already asking when she can race a junior….

Anyhow, over the winter J is making a few changes to the car. The engine needs to get freshened, he’s gonna obviously need a lot more safety equipment and the rear end in the car is goofy. If you ever see us out at the track, come say hello!!!

Being that the car is an expense, the Hubs is currently lookin’ for Sponsorship. If you’d like to talk sponsoring us in ’13 you can do so! Right now we are looking to sponsors to purchase tires and/or fuel, take care of entry fees into the races, and of course the engine needs freshened. Depending on the amount you have to sponsor we’d put a sticker(s) on the car. We do have a few sponsorships already lined up for next year so take advantage of this if you own a business!

In addition, if you have a part you’d like to try out either on the car or our ’05 Powerstroke be sure to let me know. All you gotta do is email me at Marci@CincinnatiCoupons.net and be sure to put Car Sponsorship as the Subject!

Does your family have drag racing in their blood? If so leave a comment below, I’d love to hear about it!
