Now that I have had a couple of hours to calm down and think about the new “terms” of Krogers Coupon Policy {incase you haven’t heard Kroger in Cincinnati area stores will no longer double coupons as of March 1, more info here).
I believe what Kroger is trying to do is compete with Walmart’s Everyday low price. We are a market all in itself here in Cincinnati. If this proves to work (unlike many markets that have failed) I believe they will roll this out across all their stores (affiliates included). I think overall this will equal out with lower prices every day. I love they have weekly specials every week, like the milk being $1.99!
While we have been focusing on no more double coupons, let’s look at the positive…lower prices throughout the store! This means we SHOULD be able to save money on things that we typically can’t find many coupons for such as produce and organic foods. While there are (scarce) coupons for these items, it’s an overall savings at the end of the day. I have faith in the homework that Kroger has done and will give it a little time before stepping up my full fledged support of the local grocers such as Jungle Jim’s and Remke bigg’s.
Let’s think about this for a minute, shall we?
Look at the mark up on Soy Milk. It’s typically around $3.79 for a half gallon. Kroger says we will save $1.40 on Soy Milk, so we can expect to pay $2.39 a gallon…that’s HUGE savings every week for someone who purchases Soy Milk.
Soy Milk, $3.79 (regular price) Soy Milk, $2.39 (every day low price)
- $.50/1 coupon (doubled) – $.50 coupon (no longer doubled, beginning March 1)
Total: $2.79 Total: $1.89 after coupon!
The math doesn’t lie and that’s the savings on just 1 product! You’ll hopefully be saving more with the “lower price” that’ll effect 3,500 items. In addition, according to Krogers new plan of attack we will no longer have to “wait to play the coupon game” when it comes to redeeming our coupons. In the end, we may end up saving more than what the coupon can save us…we will have to wait and see.
