I love the idea of customizing my own foods, it’s fun. At Element Bars, you can create your own great bars or purchase one of their already pre-built bars. I received several of the pre-built bars to try out. As you can see from the picture, the Choco-lata-fun is filled with big chocolate chunks. It also had a strong cinnamon flavor. This was my favorite. My husband liked the Cherry Dates Nuts. He said that it had a great cherry flavor and was filled with cherries, which he loves. At Element Bars, they are committed to using unprocessed or minimally processed elements in each bar to retain the most nutritional value.

To start, you choose your core from a selection of chewy, datey, oaty or crispy. Then the fun begins. You can choose from so many options in the fruits, nuts, sweets and boosts categories. It will even let you know if your ingredients are incompatible. So go crazy!

Journal Buddies is all about helping your child become more aware of the characteristics you value in her or in him. I received the Boys Journal, and have enjoyed using it. My older son loves to write little stories especially when I give him a crazy writing prompts. My younger son, who is 7, on the other hand will do anything to avoid writing any more than what is necessary. When we first received the book we first we had his brother write in it then we did and then we gave it to his grandparents to fill out. He loves seeing what others have to say about him. He actually likes to fill it out. When he has a friend over, I remind him of the book incase they get bored. And he actually fills it out with his friends. I like looking at his drawings and seeing what he is thinking about!

Each journal entry has four parts to it:

1. A thought for the day — things like words of advice and helpful reminders.

2. Qualities, traits and talents — where you and your buddies write down things that you like about each other (there are instructions and an example in the book).

3. A focus word for the day — an idea to explore or simply a word to think about. You can talk about it, write about it, draw a picture about it… or you can choose to do nothing about it. It’s up to you!

4. Blank pages — some are lined and some are not. These pages are for your thoughts and feelings, or your drawings, art, poetry or any other creative journaling ideas that you might want to try. What you think and how you feel is important. And how you choose to express your thoughts and feelings is totally up to you! Remember, there are tons of creative journaling ideas on pages 24 – 31 to experiment with. You can journal about the thought for the day, the focus word, what’s happening in your life, or anything else that you want to investigate or remember. You can even have your buddy write or draw in your journal if you like.

Say what you mean with Bad Idea T Shirts. They offer some seriously funny and off beat t shirts. Once you pick a design you like, you can customized it to your liking. First you pick the style. For women, you can get baby doll shirts, tank tops, spaghetti, causal tees and even hoodies, some styles do have an additional fee. For men, they even offer tall and tanks. And they now offers American Apparel shirts too. Second, you get to pick the color you want. And third, you pick the size that you like. One feature that I liked is no matter what style and color you choose, a picture pops up to let you see what it would look like.

It was hard to decide on a shirt because there are so many to choose from. But I went with the Griswold Family Vacation T Shirt, well because it is a classic! The shirt is 100% cotton and has held up to many washings.

Are you a Duke customer? Chances are, you answered yes! Be sure to call Duke Energy and set yourself up on “Budget Billing”. When we first moved into our home our bills were all over the place. One month it would be $300 and then the next it was $180. I got onto the Budget Billing and pay $150 every month. That way I’m not left to pay extra in those winter months!

Is a home phone a must? Many families are cutting back on their bills by simply getting rid of their home phone and using their cell phones. You may even save up to $30 a month by getting a “basic” internet service that is offered by Cincinnati Bell.

Many families have several cell phone users. Often times, it’s cheaper to combine each individual plan into a family plan. Be sure to shop around and use your skills to talk the cell phone carrier down on price. These companies are hurting for business and likely to get you as close to the price you are asking for.

There are endless ways to save on your monthly bills like keeping the shades drawn when the sun is up. Doing so will help to keep the heat of the sun out, lowering the costs of your a/c bill! However, in the winter months open up the blinds to allow the sun to heat your home! You think I’m crazy, but, it works!

One last piece of advice, if you are one of the millions of Americans that are behind on your bills, call these businesses and talk to them. Banks don’t want your house, they want you to stay in it. It’ll cost them more in the long run to foreclose. Simply call and let the companies know your situation. They are more than likely going to set you up with a payment that you can afford.

Car insurance is often pretty expensive. In Ohio it is a law that you carry full coverage insurance on a vehicle that has a loan. If you own an older car, call your insurance and do a price comparison of full coverage vs. liability insurance that will cover uninsured motorists. We carry a step up above liability for our cars, because we own them all. We save over $1,500 a year by doing this. But, you have to also remember that we know people who work for body shops and can do the repairs (if we are ever in an accident) for much less than the shop itself.

If you have been charged a late payment and are in good standings (pay bills on time) call the company. Let them know the reason that you are late and most likely will credit you the late fee. I recently just did this with Duke Energy while I was taking care of my Mother in Law, her bills and I’ll admit even forgot to pay my own!
