Saving Money on Fuel

Yesterday I was published in a Smart Money article on 3 new ways to save gas. But, there is so much more to be told.

I don’t feel that there is a need to comparison shop because I already know where the best deal is on fuel, Kroger Fuel centers…duh!

It’s simple to save on gas by using your Kroger Plus card every time you make a purchase at Kroger. For every $100 in groceries purchased (before coupons!) you receive 100 points. Every 100 points can be used for $.10 off per gallon of fuel for 1 fill up. Also, for every 2 Non-Federally funded prescriptions you receive another 100 points. To save even more at the pump, if you have a 1-2-3 Master Card and pay for fuel at the pump you will save an extra $.05 a gallon. Then, for every $50 in gift cards (excluding Kroger Gift Cards, Green dot cards, MoneyPaks and Western Union) you will receive 100 Points. All points will be printed at the bottom of your receipt. There is a limit of 1,000 points to be redeemed on a single fill up.

Now I typically spend about $150 before coupons and right at $75 after coupons. So I have 150 points when I leave the store. When I let my points roll over from week to week I typically redeem $.30 off each gallon and fill up. I have a 20 gallon fuel tank and save $6 when I fill up. Over a years time that is a savings of $288!!!

I ALWAYS have Kroger points to use being that Kroger is my main store that I shop at and fill our prescriptions at.

If you are in the market for gift cards this holiday season, be sure to pick them up before December 11. Kroger is offering 4 fuel points for every $1 you spend on gift cards! If your holiday shopping is all done, plan ahead and purchase gift cards that you and your family will use throughout the year.

*Note: Green Dot, Kroger Store, MoneyPaks and 123 Rewards PrePaid Visa don’t qualify.

Remember, when you plan ahead you maximize your savings!
