Clarifying the Walmart Confusion

I’ve received a few emails the past few days regarding the Walmart price matching policy and there has been much confusion with deal bloggers and some mis-interpreting the print. So I got ahold of my contact at Walmart and here’s the deal:

“There have been some questions about Walmart’s coupon policy. To clarify, Walmart will continue to accept all valid manufacturer and print-at-home internet coupons with a scannable bar code. In addition, Walmart will also match the price listed on any valid competitor coupons that include a printed retail price for a specific item (e.g., $2 for a 24 oz. bottle of Clorox).” ~ Walmart Spokesperson

So let’s say Target or Walgreens is offering a store coupon that’s $.99 Reynolds Wrap. You’ll be able to pay that price at Walmart’s registers with the competing stores ad. Now theoretically you should also be able to use a manufacture coupon as well, but, still waiting on a “official” response on that!

You may want to print Walmarts Price Matching Policy and Coupon Policy to clarify any confusion you may encounter. As always, the store manager has the final say…

Have you experienced any problems with price matching or using other store coupons at your local Walmart?

  1. Everytime I have tried to price match n use a coupon they say that they can’t take coupon. So I quit price matching at Walmart.

    • Kim, I have heard the same story as yours from several. Print the coupon and price matching policies off and take them with you as it’s from corporate. Let me know if that helps!

  2. I priced matched a Walgreen’s ad at Wal-Mart tonight. They said they would match the sale price but not the register rewards, which I did not expect them to. I went to the service desk rather than the cashier line. Quick and easy; no hassle.

    • Janet I am so glad that you had a painless experience price matching at Walmart. I’ve been reading online that a lot of stores are hassling customers for price matching and the use of coupons. Are you in the Cincinnati area? If so, what store did you do this at?

  3. I was at the Alexandria, KY store. I did have a copy of the ad with me.
