WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW TO BECOME ADDICTED TO SHOPPING WALGREENS

Walgreens can be VERY frustrating to any new shopper. With the Register Rewards, Instant Value Coupons, Instant In Store Coupons and Walgreens In Store coupons, how could anyone understand it all? I’ll dissect this store inside and out to help you understand.

Must knows:

1. There is no “shoppers card”.
2. Internet Printable Coupons are accepted. However, it is up to each store manager to accept these. I’ve never had a problem at any Cincinnati stores.
3. You can combine a Manufacture coupon with a Walgreens coupon.
4. Coupons do not double.
5. When using a $5 off $25 Walgreens coupon (or similar), the $25 must be made AFTER coupons.
6. Walgreens does not price match with other retailers.
7. Walgreens does not accept coupons from other retailers.
8. Walgreens does not accept expired coupons.

Definitions:

Register Rewards – a manufacture issued coupon that is received as a “catalina”. These expired 2 weeks from the date they are issued. A Register Reward is generally money off your next purchase.

Catalina – a manufacture coupon that prints from the machine next to the cash register. This is what prints the Register Rewards and other manufacture coupons.

Instant Value Coupon – These are Walgreens coupons that are a monthly book that can be found by the weekly ads. These can be combined with a manufacture coupon.

Instant In Store Coupon – This is considered a Walgreens coupon. This will automatically be deducted at the register. You can combine with a manufacture coupon.

Walgreens In ad coupon – This is also a Walgreens coupon. This can be combined with a manufacture coupon.

Filler Item – this is a cheap item that can be used to purchase so that the register does not beep and accepts all coupons that are being combined.

Combining Coupons:

You can combine a manufacture coupon with a Walgreens coupon on the same item. When doing this, make sure you have the same amount of items as you do coupons. Otherwise, the register will beep and not allow the coupon to go through.

If there is a Buy 1 Get 1 FREE sale, you can use 2 coupons for this transaction. You are essentially purchasing 2 items. The store is paying for one, the manufacture will pay the store for the coupon.

Understanding the Register Rewards:

Essentially a Register Reward is a manufacture coupon. These are coupons that are being issued by the manufacture and being promoted by a specific store(s).

A Register Reward will only be given once per transaction per item, unless noted in ad.

So, if a sale is purchase 1 Crest Toothpaste at $1.99 and receive $1.99 Register Rewards you will receive $1.99 Register Rewards at checkout. If you purchase 2 Crest in 1 transaction, you will only receive 1 Register Reward. You should do a separate transaction.

You can not “roll” Register Rewards on the same product. You can however use it to pay for another product with a Register Reward.

If you are making a purchase of multiple items, you can use the Register Rewards to help pay for the transaction. However, make sure that you have the same amount of items as you do coupons.

Your transaction may look like this:

Huggies, $8.99
– $3 off 1 manufacture coupon

Nivea Lip Care, $2
– $1 off 1 Walgreens In Ad Coupon
– $1 off 1 Manufacture coupon

Pantene Shampoo, $3.50
– $1 off 1 Manufacture coupon

Also have $4 Register Rewards.

You have 3 products and 4 coupons. You will need to add a “filler” item so that register accepts all the coupons. This can be a pack of gum, a sucker, a clearance item, etc.

If a Register Reward deal is purchase $dollar amount to receive $Register Reward, this is always BEFORE coupons and tax. This adds for additional savings!

Understanding checkout:

Now that you understand that you must have a item for each coupon, checkout will go smoothly. Also, hand your coupons over in this order:
– Register Rewards
– Walgreens Coupons (Instant Value and In Ad)
– Manufacture Coupons

The reason for this because the Register Rewards will bring your total out of pocket expense down and help pay for tax, the Walgreens coupons will deduct automatically even if you purchase additional merchandise of the same product (example, Walgreens Instant Value Coupon for $3 off Advil and you purchase 4 bottles, you will receive a total of $12 off), lastly manufacture coupons (these can be adjusted down).

Now that you understand how to shop Walgreens, go on and hit up the store. Come back and let me know how wonderful it is to shop!

Be sure to pick up the Walgreens Instant Value Coupon Book located with the weekly ads!
